The Delta Gamma
Foundation Lectureship in Values and Ethics is pleased to announce
a new partnership with the Department of Student Life, a division
of Student Affairs at SMU. The mission of the Student Life Departments
is to educate students and the SMU community by providing
purposeful opportunities for learning, personal growth, clarifying
values, and developing skills that promote responsible citizenship.
It is an excellent match with the mission of the Delta Gamma Foundation
Lectureship to "illuminate and define what is good and bad
in the lives, characters, and practices of all professions and
to educate students as to the value of ethical conduct."
Beginning Fall 2005, the Delta Gamma Lectureship will sponsor
the first event within SMUs ENCORE program in the Department
of Student Life. This years event will be on Monday, August
21, 2006. Attendance by all first year and transfer students
is mandatory and, in the past, over 1,000 students have attended
this particular event. In keeping with the mission of the Lectureship,
it will also be free to all students, faculty and the public.
The topic will be sexual assault and harassment and the speaker
is to be determined. The Delta Gamma Alpha Upsilon collegians
and SMU will collaborate to stress the values and ethical issues
relative to this topic.
ENCORE includes a series of events through the course of the semester
involving topics such as academics, campus involvement, and interactions
with friends and faculty. Examples of past ENCORE events include
Date Rape Mock Trial, Faculty Take you Students to Lunch
Day, First-Year Formal, and several programs presented by
the Learning Enhancement Center to encourage academic success.
These fun-filled events are exciting and very interactive, providing
various opportunities for students to excel in their college career. |
